Routing

Which gateway collects online, and which collects at the counter. They do not have to be the same one.

A connected gateway does not collect anything until you route it to a surface. There are two:

SurfaceWhere it collects
WebYour public booking site — customers paying online.
POSThe counter tablet — walk-ins paying at the desk.

A gateway can collect for one, both, or neither.

Why two switches and not one "active" flag

Because the two are genuinely different situations. A venue may take online payments through Razorpay while the counter stays on cash and UPI. Another may want a new gateway proven at the desk, where staff can watch it, before pointing the public site at it.

One flag would force those to be the same decision.

Two gateways cannot claim the same surface

At most one gateway collects for Web, and at most one for POS. This is enforced by the database, not by the screen — if two could claim a surface, nothing could answer “which one charges this booking?”, and that question has to have exactly one answer at all times.

Routing a second gateway to a surface means moving it, not adding it.

A safe rollout

  1. Connect the new gateway in test mode and verify it.
  2. Connect the live credentials.
  3. Route it to POS only. Take a few real payments at the desk, where staff are watching and can fall back to cash if something is wrong.
  4. Once you trust it, route it to Web as well.

Step 3 is the one people skip. A gateway misconfigured on the public site fails for customers you never speak to, at whatever hour they happened to be booking.

Neither surface routed

A connected gateway with no surface is inert. That is a perfectly reasonable state — it is what a gateway looks like after you have connected and verified it but before you have committed to it.

What the counter is allowed to ask

The counter tablet can ask which gateway it should be using, and nothing else. It cannot read credentials, cannot see the other surface's routing, and cannot change anything. The tablet login is shared and physically reachable by anyone standing in front of it, so it gets the answer to one question and no more.
